Keys to the Car Seat

Car accidents are the number one killer of children in the United States. According to research, 7 out of 10 carseats are installed incorrectly. One of the things I have struggled with is figuring out the correct way to install the carseat for my son. Each carseat is slightly different and comes with different instructions. Even if you follow the instructions step by step, it still may not be installed correctly, which could place your infant or toddler at risk for serious injury or death in case of an accident. Finding a carseat installation check place and following a few simple guidelines can give you the peace of mind that your child is safely secured. If you're equipped with all the information you need, you can pass it on to all of the people that your child rides with on a regular basis, like your spouse, grandparents, babysitter, etc. Here are a few local places you can have your carseat inspected for proper installation:

If you're not a neighbor of ours, you can find listings for help with carseat installation at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting . Just enter your zipcode to find the nearest check place.

Here's a few guidelines from http://www.babycenter.com/ that will help you decide the placement and type of carseat to use with your little one.

1. Use the correct type of car seat for a child's age, height and weight. Most infant safety seats only hold up to 22 pounds and should always be used in a rear-facing position. Children in car seats should not face forward until they are older than 1 year and weigh more than 20 pounds. Children should continue using forward-facing car seats until they are older than age 4 years, or weigh more than 40 pounds.
2. Children aged 4 to 8 years should use a booster seat and continue to do so until they are at least 4 feet 9 inches or taller, regardless of their age.
3. Children younger than 13 years of age should not sit in the front seat because they could be crushed by air bags if they deploy.
4. Read the instructions that came with the car seat as well as your vehicle owner's manual thoroughly before installing the safety seat in the car. Have a professional check to ensure the seat is installed correctly. Your local police station should have information on safety seat inspection sites in your area.
5. Never install a safety seat in the front seat of a car.
6. When a child is in a safety seat, the harness should be level with the shoulders and the straps should be secure and tight.
7. If possible, don't use a secondhand car seat. If you do, make certain it's never been in an accident and has all the parts, including instructions. Never use a car seat that's six or more years old.

Summer Travel with BABY!

If you're going on summer vacation this year with a baby, here are a few tips to help getting there a little easier.

1. Make a list of all the things you know you'll need about a week in advance so you can try to find smaller and compact versions of them to ease your load. Instead of taking the whole big bottle of your little one's natural sunscreen, put some in a travel container instead and save the space. Remember to label them though!

2. Try to bring items that can have several different functions such as lightweight receiving blankets that double as towels or nursing covers. Bringing versatile baby clothing will save room too. A onesie makes great lighweight pjs.

3. Bring lots of baby wipes. Or buy an extra box when you arrive at your destination. Since you're going to be out of your element for a weekend or a week, you'll likely have many situations in which you need to clean up messes and wipe dirty hands or surfaces.

4. What does your baby like staring at? If your tot loves dogs, then put pics of cute canines on your smartphone and don't show her these until the trip. The distraction will work much longer if it's something she's never seen before. Toting a whole bunch of familiar toys is a waste, they'll throw them to the wayside and be bored with them in seconds. With the exception of a teething toy or favorite lovie, leave the bag of toys at home.

5. Bring lots of pacifiers and snacks. They don't take up much room and their worth their weight in gold.

My husband and I had been trying for almost a year to have a child, so I had lots of time to think of how I would tell him if and when it finally happened! So when the time actually came that I got a positive pregnancy test... I was snowed in at my in-law's house and my husband was out on call for his job!! I was DYYYYYYYING to tell him, but I wanted it to be in person, so I had to wait TWO whole days before I was able to see him!! When he came home I gave him a "congratulations" card, and told him that I had a gift for him, and and having no idea what the "congrats" was for, he opened the gift bag that had the test in it, and when he turned to me, I raised my shirt and had written on my tummy "You're going to be a daddy!" We both teared up and we hugged and kissed and celebrated! It was the most amazing moment. In that moment, he finally became a daddy, and I finally became a mommy. :)

I am entering with the hopes of winning the shopping spree for my sister, Lacy, who is expected to deliver her baby boy on or around 9/10/10. I am already the mother to a fantastic daughter, Elise, who is 17mos old. There have been many fun, trying, and exciting moments that I've experienced as a Mommy, but this one still stands out as one of the funniest:

My funniest "Mommy moment" came shortly after I had given birth to my adorable baby girl. We were visiting my husband's mother, and were laughing about the challenge of diapering a baby boy versus a baby girl. My mother-in-law had both sexes (1 girl, 1 boy) and submitted that changing a baby boy was 10x harder than changing a baby girl. I laughed and had to agree because to that point, my daughter Elise had been a breeze. After a few minutes, the time came to change Elise's diaper, and my husband and I took her into the guest bedroom. She laid there like the sweet angel that she was, cooing and grinning at her Dad while I prepared to change her. As I pulled back the diaper, out shoots a spray of pee! I squealed and my husband started laughing as my mother-in-law ran into the room to see what the commotion was about. As I wiped myself off and prepared to trade out the now soaked diaper for the fresh one, the little doll then SHOOTS OUT poo, at a record-setting distance--all over herself, me, and the bed. I was in such shock that this occurred, and as a new and unexperience mommy, I didn't know what to do. My husband was of no help due to being in such a laughing fit he could barely breathe. I looked at my mother-in-law with horror and she looked back to me with a grin and sayed "well, I guess girls aren't as easy as I thought." Wasn't that the truth!?

I have to give her credit for wearing those tall heels while in her second trimester. I wonder if she was able to pry those babies off her swollen feet at the end of the night. Well, despite the agony she may have faced later that evening, she looked great! Another red carpet prego, Paula Patton, from the movie "Precious" wore a full-length sequin gown by Kaufman Franco. I was reading in Pregnancy & Newborn magazine about a website called runpee.com that tells you exactly when you should exit a theatre during a movie to use the restroom. It lets you know how long you can be gone so that you don't miss any of the important plot building scenes. This site is great for the expecting mom, since it's a given that you will be leaving to alleviate yourself at some point during the movie.

As we enter the holiday season, I was thinking about how much my life changed when I had my son, and about how much the holidays changed after he was born. It's been two and a half years since he came into this world, and oh how he has grown and changed and changed the lives of his mother, father, and family members. I'm thankful for so many more things now that our family of two became three. Not that I felt I was missing something before he was born, but only after did I find another puzzle piece in my game of Life. I prayerfully give Thanks for my little puzzle piece every day. He is truly a blessing and I have never been more proud of a title than I have been with Mommy! So tell us, what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Boosting Your Immune System

If you are a germophobe like myself, you will appreciate any advice on how to keep yourself from getting the ickies this winter. According to Pregnancy & Newborn magazine, there are natural remedies safe for pregnant women that will help you ward off and cure common ailments. Honey is for sore throats and coughs. I mix it in my tea or eat a teaspoon full and then wash it down with some warm liquid. Eating cabbage can help relieve constipation. Try eating it with a few prunes on top as a salad. Cabbage leaves can also alleviate mastitis, a breast infection that causes red streaks around the nipple, painful swollen breasts, and high fevers. I wish I had known this little tip when I was nursing. Mastitis can be terrible! Chamomile tea can help ward off morning sickness and have a calming effect. You can even use it as a skin compress for burns. Lemon juice can help your immune system fight off viruses. Lemons have lots of vitamin C, so add some zest to your diet like putting lemon wedges in your water and make a toast to your health this winter.

According to a new study by Canadian researchers, children who visit their grandparents and great-grandparents often, help keep them from forming negative stereotypes about older people. Children who are around elderly people often, at a very young age, before they can speak, are less likely to associate them with negative cultural images, according to the the study published in Educational Gerontology. When I saw this article on the website, http://www.upi.com/, I immediately thought of my 2 year old son who absolutely adores his great-grandparents( who are in their late 80's) and live close to us. He asks to see them almost on a daily basis and I think when he's a little older, he'll realize how lucky he is to have such experienced and influential people in his life. I, on the other hand, did'nt grow up seeing my grandparents much, and my great grandparents were no longer alive when I was born. I really did not feel comfortable around older people until I married my husband, who is very close with his grandparents and visits often. I gained a new insight on life and the value of those who have seen and lived through great historical events. I'm proud to say that when my son sits in his great-grandmothers lap, he doesn't see an old lady, he see's another valuable member of the family that he loves and looks up to.

Breastfeeding Awareness Month!

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Posh celebrated with a free breastfeeding class on Tuesday, August 4th. Even though I breastfed my son for a year, I learned things last night about breastfeeding that I never knew. It was definately a plethera of information that I and the rest of the ladies tried to absorb like sponges. Our speaker, Sheila Peters, from St. Johns Mother and Baby Support Center gave us an excellent presentation and we were able to ask questions and intertwine our own breastfeeding stories throughout the evening. Each of our class attendees left with a free Bravado Original Nursing Bra and two lucky winners were awarded a Glamourmom tank and a Bravado Breastfeeding DVD. I know we all left the class feeling much more confident about breastfeeding, whether it was our first child or our 5th. Family Name or Top Ten?

Looking for a baby name? You might check a site I saw featured in Pregnancy Magazine called Ancenstry.com. You can enter your name and as much info as you know about your parents or grandparents and it searches all kinds of archives to continue compiling your family tree. You might end up finding the perfect family name for your baby! I tried it and thought it was pretty awesome, but after a few searches it does ask you to sign up for a 14 day trial in which they market a years subscription to you. The top 10 names for 2008 were posted recently in which Emily finally fell to third place after being the #1 baby name for a girl for 12 years. The new number one, (drumroll please), Emma! Not surprising I guess, I have heard the name Emma quite a bit lately. Isabell ranked second and Madison came in fourth. The top three for boys were Jacob, Michael, and Ethan.

How long until I can try again?

It use to be that you shouldn't try to get pregnant for at least three months after a miscarriage, but obstetricians now say that a woman only needs to wait until she has had one normal menstrual period. Some women get pregnant quickly after a miscarriage and newer studies prove this does not lead to a higher incidence of another miscarriage. By waiting until at least one mentstrual period, your obstetrician can determine when the baby was conceived more accurately. Your blood tests and other tests will be more precise this way. If you've had more than one miscarriage or are undergoing a medical evaluation or treatment, you'll need to consult your physician as to when it is safe to begin trying again.

Placenta lasagna anyone?

I had heard of people using their placenta after delivery in interesting ways, but listen to the way some women are putting it to use, according to thecradle.com.

Some women in Hollywood are using extracts from the placenta for facials. It is suppose to help rebuild cells, acceelerate tissue regeneration, and replace vital nutrients lost during childbirth.

In some cultures, the placenta is buried after birth. A tree may be planted alongside it to represent growth of their child.

The Tolong people of the Philippines put the placenta in a clay pot and then smoke it. Afterwards, they bury the ashes.

Some studies show that eating placenta has benefits, including warding off postpartum depression and amping up milk production.

I was happy to let the hospital do whatever they pleased with my placenta. No placenta lasagna for me. But to each their own.

I was recently reading Fit Pregnancy magazine and was surprised by some of the prego facts listed under their News To Use section. I thought I would share them with our expecting readers.

1. Water aerobics may make labor feel easier, according to a British study. Although the classes made no difference in the labor's durations, women who participate in pool-based classes during pregnancy are less likely to request pain medication during labor. -S.R. Reproductive Health

2. Being born by elective C-section at 39 weeks increases a baby's risk of health problems. Researchers say that babies delivered at 41 and 42 weeks are also at higher risk for complications. The optimal time is between 39 and 40 weeks. Thirty six percent of elective C-sections are performed before 39 weeks. -S.R. New England Journal of Medicine

3. Research suggests that expecting mothers who have low levels of vitamin D had a 28 percent chance of having a C-section compared to 14 percent of women with normal levels. It is thought that without ample levels of vitamin D, the muscles that push the baby out are weakened. -S.R The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism

4. The estimated number of routine prenatal exams done annually in the U.S. is 19,869,962. -National Center for Health Statistics

5. Women with uncomplicated pregnancies enjoy a permanent drop in blood pressure according to a Kaiser Permanente study. The average reduction was 2mm in systolic blood pressure and 1.5 mm in diastolic. -Obstetrics & Gynecology

The best way to figure out what kind of diaper bag you'll need is to look at the current bag your carrying now. Do you carry a giant hobo bag full of everything you would ever need during the day, like your entire makeup pallette, work out clothes and shoes, and some snacks in case you get hungry or do you stick to the basics and find yourself doing just fine with a wallet, cell phone, and keys in hand? Invitation etiquette 2009?

So, what is appropriate in this day and age to include in a baby shower invitation? I have received quite a few baby shower invitations and attended some great baby showers and then some not so great baby showers over the years and it seems to me that etiquette is somewhat going out the window. I'm definately not old fashioned or feel the need to adhere to strict etiquette, but a baby shower is for showering the mother-to-be with gifts and gifts are gifts, right? Here's a list of do's and don'ts for baby shower etiquette in 2009. (Completely my opinion, but I think you'll agree)

Do:

1. Provide cake and refreshments.

2. Open gifts at the shower.

3. Place small registry stuffers in invtation to let guests know where the mom-to-be is registered.

4. State that the shower is "adults only" or "women only" if that is what the mother-to-be would like. If she wants a coed shower or would like whole families to attend, make sure you include that on the invitation.

5. Throw a shower for a second, third, or fourth child. The birth of a baby is a joyous occassion and should be celebrated. If the mom-to-be already has everything she needs for baby, throw a diaper shower or a casserole shower instead.

6. Let a friend or family member offer to throw you a shower. If you are not offered, then host a welcoming party yourself after you have the baby, so family and friends can meet the baby, and they can "shower" then if they choose.

Don't:

1. Ask guests to bring food

2. Wait until you get home to open gifts (guests love to see what you got and like to ooh and aww over tiny people stuff) *Note to Host: Make sure you keep the gift opening going smoothly so it doesn't take too long.

3. Please, please, don't ask for gift cards, cash, or specific items in an invitation. If there is something you were really wanting, let the host know ahead of time and maybe she can get a few people together to go in on it.

4. Leave the invitation vague and then expect guests to know to leave their little ones and husbands at home.

5. Skip the shower for baby #2. Every baby is a reason to celebrate even if you forego the gifts, get friends and family together.

6. Ask someone to host a baby shower for you. Subtle hints are fine, but keep them to a minimum.

I have to give credit to those names in the credits (prop and set crews) for coming up with creative ways to hide celebrity baby bumps in primetimes series. Some expecting stars that need to be covered by oversized scrubs, medical charts, and large handbags are Alyson Hannigan and Colbie Smulders from "How I Met Your Mother", Rachel Griffiths from "Brothers and Sisters", Kelly Rutherford from "Gossip Girl", Chyler Leigh from "Grey's Anatomy", Parminder Nagra from "ER", Ana Ortiz from "Ugly Betty", and Jill Scott from "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency". When my baby was under 1 year old, I remember checking on him 3 or 4 times a night to make sure he was still breathing. Now that he is almost 2, I still check on him at least once through out the night. I think every parent worries about their baby while their sleeping. Here are ten things you can do to ease a few of your worries and reduce the risk of SIDS (from SIDS Resources).

1. Place your baby on his/her back to sleep.

2. Do not smoke while you are pregnant and don't let anyone smoke in your home.

3. Make sure the baby's crib has a firm mattress and fitted sheet.

4. Don't use blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, bumper pads, or positioning wedges in your baby's crib.

5. Don't let your baby sleep on soft things like cushions, pillows, comforters, the couch, or an adult bed.

6. Do not let your baby get too hot by over bundling or keeping the room too warm.

7. Take good care of yourself while you are pregnant and have regular checkups.

8. Take good care of your baby. Keep appointments with the pediatrician.

9. Breastfeed your baby.

10. Consider using a pacifier for sleep times.

Who's Harvey Karp?

I recently came across an article in FitPregnancy magazine about a doctor named Harvey Karp. He was a Los Angeles-area pediatrician, but now writes and teaches at hospitals, universities, and military bases. Harvey Karp, M.D. is best known for his DVD and book titled The Happiest Baby on the Block. The book and DVD explain Karp's techniques for calming fussy babies. His program includes the "5 S's" which includes swaddling, side/stomach position, shushing sounds, swinging, and sucking. Karp's reason for The Happiest Baby on the Block series stemmed from his time as a pediatric consultant to the child abuse prevention team at the University of California, Los Angeles. According to the article, Karp was disturbed by the number of infants brought to the emergency room after being abused by a parent. He then began his mission to find the best ways to calm and soothe crying infants. A content baby means more sleep for mom and dad and in turn reduces the risk of postpartum depression and the chances of shaken baby syndrome. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck welcomed the arrival of their new healthy baby girl yesterday, Jan. 6th, in Los Angeles. No other immediate details were available. The baby girl joins 3 year old sister, Violet. There are too many New Year's babies to count, but I did find a few that were born just seconds after midnight. Amaranta Aguilar, 7 lbs. 1 oz, was born at Loyola Hospital and Jesse Luis Sanchez, 7 lbs. 2 oz., was born at the same time in the Chicago Heights area. Happy birthday New Year Babies!

Your OB Options

If you don't think you and your obstetrician are a good fit, you might consider changing doctors. It is important to have a doctor that you can easily express your concerns to and be able to effectively communicate with. Don't worry about hurting your OB's feelings, patients change doctors all the time for many different reasons. It's better if you have a doctor that you feel comfortable with, rather than suffering through 9 months with someone that you just don't click with and I'm sure your OB would agree. One reason for considering an OB switch may be considerably long waits every time you have an appointment. Waiting a few hours on very rare occasions is normal, sometimes you just happen to be scheduled when an emergency C-section needs to be performed. Waiting a few hours every time you see your doc means she or he has a patient over load and can't give you the attention you deserve. Other signs that you need to start a new doctor search is having your concerns disregarded or being brushed off, feeling pressured into unwanted procedures or interventions, a horrible bedside manner, or an abnormally high Cesarean section rate. You choose your obstetrician, so do some research and ask important questions before you decide on one. If the OB you choose turns out he/she is not the doctor you thought they were, you have every right to switch, but remember, it can be difficult to switch doctors the later you are in your pregnancy, so don't drop your OB with the drop of a hat. Obstetricians are looking out for your best interest, so if she tells you to lay off the weight gain, don't think she's out to crush your self image.

There are so many options for diapering your baby these days. It's hard to muddle your way through the plethora of information about cloth and disposable diapers. My suggestion is to first decide whether you will use cloth or disposable. From there, you can narrow your search to the individual brand that will best suit your baby. There are pros and cons to both cloth and disposable diapers and you need to pick a diaper based on those that are most important to you. The reality is that the majority of toys and baby items sold in the United States are safe for our children, but how do you know what to buy for them and what not to buy for them. Instead of worrying about each little toy my child has acquired over the years, I've found a handy website, that sends me e-mails everytime there is a recall on something. You can view all the recalls at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on their website, http://www.cpsc.gov/, and you can request e-mails warning you of recent recalls, https://www.cpsc.gov/cpsclist.aspx. I have found this website to be very informative and I feel a little bit safer knowing about recalls as soon as they are released.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are twice as many twins being born lately? So many people I know and celebrities are having twins. Twins seem so much more comon, rather than a rareity anymore. Angelina Jolie, Lisa Marie Presley, Rebecca Romijn, Diane Farr, and Jennifer Lopez are just a few of the celebrities with twins or twins on the way. I wanted to find out if it was just a coincidence that I knew so many pregnant with twins or if there really was a twin increase occuring, so I did a little research. The amount of twins being born in the U.S. has actually more than doubled. There has been a 74 percent increase in the number of twin births from 1980 to 2000. About 3% of babies in the United States were born as a twin or multiple in 2000. So why the increase? Fertility treatments immediately came to my mind as the answer to the increase. Although fertility treatments has definately added to the increase, there are other reasons for the increase as well. Age is a big factor, your chances of having twins increases the older you are when you conceive. Another factor is having a family history of twins and your race can increase your chances. Twins are more common in African Americans and least common in Hispanics and Asians. The more pregnancies you have had can increase your chances and if you already have twins. So there are actually quite a few factors that increase your chances of having twins. Because so many celebrities are waiting until later to start their families, I wonder if this is one of the main contributers to the reason for the celebrity twin baby boom.

NURSING BRAS 101

Don't know when to buy nursing bras or what size you'll need? Your body goes through a lot of size changes during pregnancy. Your breasts will gradually get larger along with your rib cage as your pregnancy progresses. You will increase at least one cup size a couple of days after delivery when your milk comes in. Around 10-12 weeks after birth, your breasts will relax in size and weight and you will probably decrease back to the size you were when you were about 3-6 months pregnant. It's best if you purchase one or two nursing bras after your 36 weeks along and then build up a supply of nursing bras after the baby is 10-12 weeks old as your cup size will have decreased and probably stay this size until your finished nursing. NAMING THE CELEBRITY BABY

I was recently flipping through the pages of US Weekly and saw all the interesting and uncommon names of celebrity babies. Are they searching for a name that will set them apart from everyone else? Are they looking for a name that the child would own like Cher or Oprah? I wondered if the average non-celebrity, like myself, could get away with naming their child "Peanut" or "Apple" and the rest of America think it was cool and cute. Could only those that shared in the limelight pull this off? I was watching Tyra a couple of months ago, the show was, "What's in a Name?" It was all about the stereotypes people attach to a name. The kind of person that immediately pops into your head when you hear just their first name? It really made me think long and hard about naming my little one. Running with Bump

Running while pregnant can have many benefits, but it's not for everyone. If your already a runner, then running comes second nature to you and continuing to run during your pregnancy is perfectly safe. Deciding to take up running after finding out your with child is probably not the best or safest way to keep in shape the next 9 months. If your not already a runner, read the list of best exercises at the end of the article to find the best workout for you.
There are many runners that continue to run into the third trimester of their pregnancy. The most important thing to remember while running is to listen to your body. Don't expect to be able to run as fast as you have been, and don't try. It's best not to push yourself, and don't expect PR's. Your body is going through quite a few changes, including breast weight and tenderness, stretching of muscles and ligaments, and a shift in the center of gravity. These changes are the reasons why it is so important to listen to your body while running. Invest in a very supportive maternity bra and breathable maternity activewear to keep you comfortable during your runs. Be cautious when running on uneven surfaces or paths with loose gravel and rocks. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and run indoors on days that are excessivly humid or hot. Keeping all this in mind, you can keep running right on through your pregnancy!
If running is not your forte, there are plenty of other ways to stay in shape. Here's a list of other non-contact sports that may be a perfect match for you and baby.
1. Swimming (avoid scuba diving)
2. Low-Impact Aerobics (look for classes especially designed for expecting mothers)

Babies and Wedding Bells; Definite Guest Magnets

I was attending my brother-in-laws wedding in the field just outside our front door. It was steamy hot, bugs were swarming the guest’s aroma of perfume mixed with sweat, and my due date was the next day. Due to the not so perfect conditions, I thought it was just having Braxton Hicks and tried to enjoy the festivities. I went home that evening and 3 hours later arrived at the hospital. The labor went smooth and I was in awe of the miracle that I had just delivered. Yet, I didn’t know that my alone time with our new bundle of joy would be so short. Since my husband’s brother had just been married 7 hours earlier, it wasn’t long before every guest from out of town was appearing next to my hospital bed. The visits were all very well meaning, but all very overwhelming. One right after another piled into my tiny room waiting for their turn to ogle over the baby. I spent more time handing my baby over to friends and family than holding and admiring him myself. I kept thinking how I couldn’t wait until I could get home and have some privacy. I started pondering how nice it might be to become a hermit and not leave the house until my son’s 21st birthday.
And then three days later, it was time to go home. Hallelujah, I was finally going home! A sigh of relief and a feeling of anticipation came over me as we pulled up our driveway, when out of the corner of my eye, my eager mother-in-law appears with video camera rolling, ready to capture every moment as I hobble into the house and collapse on the bed in exhaustion. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely appreciated all the help and support from family members, but my emotions were on a roller coaster and I felt like I was being smothered to death. I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings and didn’t know how to express my own feelings.
I learned a lot from my experience. I learned you can set boundaries while still being tactful and accept help from family and friends without feeling like you owe them hours of baby time when they drop off a meal. If your due date happens to fall around a big family reunion or you deliver the day after your brother-in-laws wedding, here are some suggestions for postpartum peace:

1. Know exactly what you need and what you don’t need. Make a plan and let your family and friends know what that plan is. Try e-mailing or phoning friends and family to let them know what times you will be accepting company. Maybe Wednesdays and Fridays between 12:00-3:00 work the best for you. If you don’t want any visitors for three or four days after delivery, let them know.
2. Put visitors to work. If your friends and family want to help, make a list of things that you think would be really helpful and ask them to pick one or two off the list. It’s o.k. to be specific. They asked, right?
3. Ask your husband to be the gatekeeper. Discuss with him what you would like for him to be in charge of, like entertaining guests that linger too long.
4. Take time for bonding with your new baby. You need alone time with your baby and husband to share experiences and enjoy your new little family. If you feel like you’ve had ample bonding time with baby, you won’t be so hesitant to share with family.
