BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS MONTH

Did you know it's Breastfeeding Awareness Month? The percentage of mothers in the U.S. who breastfeed their children is higher than ever, according to a survey from the CDC. Seventy-seven percent of mothers in the U.S. breastfeed their children for some length of time. There are many benefits to breastfeeding for the mother and baby. Here's a few you may not have heard yet from Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine. Women who breastfeed are 50% less likely to develop breast cancer. Research has shown that breastfeeding can reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Breastfed children are also less likely to have allergies, ear infections, and asthma. Breastfeeding is also much more cost effective. The average cost of breastfeeding per year is about $300, while the cost of formula is around $1000 to $2000 a year.
